How much control you have over your food depends on your booking type. The key difference is whether you have a Host, and whether you share the yacht with your own crew or with other guests.
Cabin booking with a Host (Classic Catamaran, Premium Monohull, Premium Catamaran):
Your Host caters & cooks half-board for the whole yacht, including daily breakfasts, lunches, and two dinners. They shop before you board, so the menu is planned in advance.
Your Host contacts you a couple of days before the trip to ask about dietary requirements and allergies. Vegetarian, vegan and most common requirements can be accommodated.
You share the menu and the galley with the other guests on your yacht, so the menu is built for the whole group. Your Host adapts dishes for you, but you have less control than on a private booking.
The remaining dinners, snacks and drinks are on you. Restaurants onshore and the supermarket give you plenty of choice.
Cabin booking without a Host (Classic Monohull)
No food is included. At the marina, you shop for the week together with the other guests on your yacht, and you cook onboard yourselves. You decide what you buy and eat, but you share the galley and fridge with the rest of the yacht. Be sure to include your Skipper with your meals.
Full yacht with a Host
Your Host plans the menu before the trip and contacts you a couple of days beforehand to ask about dietary requirements and allergies. At check-in, two guests meet the Host at the supermarket and pay for the provisions. Because the whole yacht is your own group, the menu can be adapted entirely around your crew’s needs.
Full yacht without a Host
You have full control. You and your yacht mates are in charge of shopping and cooking for the week, so you choose every ingredient. Be sure to include your Skipper with your meals.
Serious allergies
A yacht galley is small and shared, and it is not an allergen-free kitchen. Your Host takes allergies seriously and will work around them, but we can’t fully rule out cross-contact. If you have a severe allergy, be sure to communicate that to your Host, Skipper and yacht friends, again when you board. Bring your own medication, including adrenaline auto-injectors if prescribed.
Keep in mind that you will often be at sea or on small islands, some distance from a hospital. Check for allergens yourself when eating onshore, at restaurants and at events. Make sure your travel insurance covers your condition.
